Tommaso Iorco

The cultural organization aria nuova
was born in 1989 by Tommaso Iorco,
a poet and a theatrical director,
working deliberately far
from the hallowed grounds
of the official culture — and far from the artists
which serves it, too. It is clear even from
the name of the organization
(which means “new air”,
willingly without capital letters),
the aspiration of his founder to create
an open space, a free zone
else from the fried air of the present
“civilisation”, which is in decomposition.

As a poet, Tommaso has published
till now five texts:
the melic play Circe
the drama Dana,
the collection L’opera della fenice,
the longer poem Amritagni
and the dramatic romance Alkesti.
He has moreover realized
essays and translations such as
Dai Veda a Kalki and Rig-Veda

Among his performances, all produced
by aria nuova itself, we point out
Una stagione all’inferno,
Pangea, Magna Mater,
La luce della memoria

[go to TEATRO].

For our organization he has also carried out
— besides meetings and lectures —
the video Kaosmos, shown at
the Modern Art’s Gallery of Turin.

Last but not least,
he edited the integral poetical edition
of Sri Aurobindo’s Poetry,
translated into Italian verses
with parallel texts.
